Born. To be born. To be reborn. The word holds everything.

This is not a painting about a neighbourhood. It is a painting about the act of beginning — the arrival of a new person into the world, and the arrivals that come after: the moments in a life when something fundamental shifts and a person becomes, again, someone new. Identity is not fixed. It is born several times.

Oil and aerosol on canvas on a stretcher. The spray creates the atmosphere in which something new can appear: diffuse, full of possibility, not yet defined. The oil grounds it. The two mediums together make the tension of the title visible.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

Esta no es una pintura sobre un barrio. Es una pintura sobre el acto de empezar — la llegada de una nueva persona al mundo, y las llegadas que vienen después: los momentos en una vida en que algo fundamental cambia y una persona se convierte, de nuevo, en alguien nuevo. La identidad no es fija. Nace varias veces.

Óleo y aerosoles sobre tela en bastidor. El spray crea la atmósfera en la que algo nuevo puede aparecer: difuso, lleno de posibilidad, todavía sin definir. El óleo lo ancla. Los dos medios juntos hacen visible la tensión del título.
