Manley wax crayons on Fabriano paper — 350g, 70 × 50 cm (28 × 20 in). The wax crayon is a medium Sáez returns to for subjects that require warmth: the texture of the marks, the way colour builds on paper. A travel image made with a medium that itself feels like a memory.
Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).
