This is a large, quiet painting — 100 × 81 cm (39 × 32 in) of oil on canvas. The image is stripped to its minimum: a form, a gesture, a colour. And yet something accumulates. You spend time with it and the word that comes is the one in the title. Not because it illustrates hope, but because it produces it.
Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya). He holds a weekly column in Diari Ara since its founding in 2010.
