Manley wax crayons on Fabriano paper — 350g, 70 × 50 cm. Sáez made this in response to the comment he hears most: “my three-year-old could do that.” Rather than argue, he made the painting and named it honestly. If a child could make it, what does it mean that this one was made by an artist with thirty years of practice?

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC.

Este dibujo lo hice por la cantidad de comentarios que recibo del tipo “esto lo hace mi hijo de tres años”. En vez de discutirlo, decidí hacer la pintura y nombrarla honestamente. Si un niño podría hacerlo, ¿qué significa que este lo hizo un artista con treinta años de práctica?
