I have a lot of haters on social media and this is the insulting comment that keeps coming up. It is something people already said to me when I made fanzines, then when I made my graphic novels and now with my paintings. I used to answer sometimes that a child would love nothing more than to draw like this; now I don't say that, because drawing like a child seems to me a compliment, and using childhood as a way to insult says a lot about the person who does it. I suppose they have some problem with being a child, and I don't think their own young children, if they understand it, would feel very good about having parents who do that. Now I prefer to make jokes and artworks out of their own absurd comments.

It is a painting made with oil pastels on 350 gsm Fabriano paper, 70x50 cm.

Sáez turns into material for his work the comment he has been receiving for years, from fanzines to painting: humour as the answer, and childhood as what it is, a way of looking and drawing without fear.

One original on paper. One owner. Sold unframed: any frame in the photographs is for display only.

About the artist: Juanjo Sáez (Barcelona) is the author of «El Arte» (translated into six languages, with its original notebooks in the MNAC collection) and director of the internationally awarded animated feature «Heavies Tendres».
