There is something in this moon that Magritte would have understood immediately.

An oil painting on canvas mounted on a thick stretcher, with the air of a retro and psychedelic painting. Sáez returns here to one of the most ancient subjects in the history of art — the moon — and treats it with the surrealist distance that Magritte perfected: the image is familiar, but something in it has shifted. The moon is there, unmistakably, and yet it belongs to another world. A world that is simultaneously the one we inhabit and the one we dream.

Acquired by a private collector for €1,100.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

Sáez vuelve aquí a uno de los temas más antiguos de la historia del arte — la luna — y lo trata con la distancia surrealista que Magritte perfeccionó: la imagen es familiar, pero algo en ella ha cambiado de sitio. La luna está ahí, inconfundible, y sin embargo pertenece a otro mundo. Un mundo que es simultáneamente el que habitamos y el que soñamos.

Adquirida por un coleccionista privado por 1.100€.
