Some houses only exist in dreams. That is where this one lives.

This work is based on a dream Sáez had — a house on the beach that his parents had, except they never really had it. A place that existed only in the imagination, in the space between memory and desire. The house that should have been. The summer that never happened but somehow always will have.

There is something deeply human about dreaming of places that never existed. The mind builds them anyway — with specific light, a particular smell of sea, rooms that feel familiar despite never having been entered. This painting holds one of those places.

Acquired by a private collector for €1,250.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

Esta obra está basada en un sueño que tuve de una casa que tenían mis padres en la playa y que en realidad jamás tuvieron. Un lugar que solo existió en la imaginación, en el espacio entre la memoria y el deseo. La casa que debería haber sido. El verano que nunca ocurrió pero que de alguna manera siempre habrá existido.

Hay algo profundamente humano en soñar con lugares que nunca existieron. La mente los construye de todas formas — con una luz específica, un olor particular a mar, habitaciones que se sienten familiares aunque nunca se hayan entrado. Esta pintura guarda uno de esos lugares.

Adquirida por un coleccionista privado por 1.250€.
