The sea is always the same. And always completely different.

A large oil on canvas mounted on a stretcher — the sea reduced to its essential grammar: horizon, light, movement. Not a seascape in the traditional sense, but a meditation on what the sea does to the people who live near it. Barcelona is a city that faces the water and rarely looks at it. This painting does.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

No un paisaje marino en el sentido clásico, sino una meditación sobre lo que el mar le hace a quien vive cerca. Barcelona es una ciudad que mira al agua y rara vez la ve. Esta pintura sí.
