The sun is the oldest subject in art. Sáez paints it with his own hands — literally.

The rays of this sun are made from the artist’s own fingerprints. Not a brush, not a tool — the direct mark of skin on paper, repeated until the light radiates outward. There is no other instrument between the artist and the image. The result is a painting that carries a biological signature: these rays exist because of the specific pressure of these specific fingers, on this specific day.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

El sol es el tema más antiguo del arte. Sáez lo pinta con sus propias manos — literalmente.

Los rayos de este sol están hechos con las huellas dactilares del propio artista. No un pincel, no una herramienta — la marca directa de la piel sobre el papel, repetida hasta que la luz irradia hacia afuera. No hay ningún instrumento entre el artista y la imagen. El resultado es una pintura que lleva una firma biológica: estos rayos existen gracias a la presión específica de estos dedos específicos, en este día específico.
