A figure — a child — rendered with the economy of someone who has spent decades learning what to leave out. The composition breathes. The gesture is small and total at the same time. It is a painting about fatherhood, but also about the specific silence between two people who share blood and don’t yet know how to say it.

Juanjo Sáez is a Barcelona-based author, illustrator and animation director with over 30 years of professional practice. His animated feature Heavies Tendres has won awards at Fantasia Montreal, Animest Bucharest and Anilogue Budapest. His book El Arte has been translated into six languages; its original notebooks were acquired by the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).
